A proponent of the French school of fencing, Alfred Hutton was a British fencing master that did much to modernize sabre technique as it was fenced at the time. Hutton is acknowledged for breathing new life into the sport of fencing after it had fallen into the category of anachronistic, esoteric activities. The Hutton Sabre (SH2201) is crafted after an original with a stainless steel guard & a wire-wrapped imitation sharkskin grip. The blade & hilt of the Hutton sabre are closer to the style of the true military sabre. The blade is somewhat shortened & lightened, with a rounded tip for effective training.

The Schlaeger Rapiers utilize a popular swept hilt, modified to accommodate our schlaeger blades in 37 (SH1099) and 43 (SH1098) lengths. These tapered blades provide a superior balance compared to the traditional parallel-sided schlaegers, making for a faster sword.

Fencing in the Renaissance style plays a prominent part in historical re-enactment, combining the quickness of light blades with the structure and spirit of the duel. In addition to our Practical Swept Hilt and Cup-Hilt Rapiers we have developed a number of other weapons for the Renaissance fencer and these are presented here.
The Schlaeger Rapiers utilize a popular swept hilt, modified to accommodate our schlaeger blades in 37`` (SH1099) and 43`` (SH1098) lengths. These tapered blades provide a superior balance compared to the traditional parallel-sided schlaegers, making for a faster sword.
The Fencing Rapier, a standard in the sport, is available with either the Schlaeger blade (SH1032B) or double-wide Epee (Musketeer) blade (SH1032). Either blade will fit the OL301 sheath. The Main Gauche (SH1033) is fitted with a training blade that combines adequate parrying stiffness at the forte with tip flexibility for safety, making the piece ideal for two-weapon sparring. The AH2143 mask meets international punch-test standards and is recommended for use with these and any other fencing weapons.

This oval section Schlager blade, as used on the SH1032B Fencing Rapier, is available separately for blade replacement or for use in building customized rapiers. Authorized for rapier fencing by many reenactment groups, the OHLASP01 is a sturdy blade, forged in high-carbon spring steel.

Designed for the rapier fencer with a preference for the cup-hilt style who wishes to spar in saftey, our Practical Cup-hilt Rapier & Main Gauche fit the bill perfectly. The rapier blade is similiar in design to the practical blades for the swept-hilts but the length is adapted for the cup-hilt. The main gauche blade is uniquely styled to maintain the Spainish influence.

The blades are crafted in 1065 high-carbon steel, hardened to 50HRC, which reduces edge-notching to acceptable levels while providing resilience and protection against brittleness. The scabbards are finished in matte black, ready for owner customization if desired.

The Practical Side Sword (SH2279) uses the same hilt as the sharp version(SH2203), but carries a sparring blade designed for safety. Side sword sparring, in both sword & buckler and sword & dagger modes is becoming increasingly popular with many proponents among the ranks of the various Renaissance societies.
The Side Sword was a military sword of the 16th and 17th century Renaissance period that also achieved popularity among civilians, due to its relatively light weight and quickness. It also had an advantage over its contemporary, the rapier, in having the ability to cut efficiently as well as thrust. Side swords were often the weapon of choice for sword and buckler fighting. Our side sword, based on a German original, is a beautifully proportioned piece that balances very well. The "swept" hilt affords excellent hand protection and the blade geometry makes for outstanding performance in both the cut and the thrust. Includes black leather scabbard.
