Handcrafted in a small town nestled in the Longquan mountains of China’s Zhejiang province, this sword embodies a tradition of skilled swordmaking that began over two millennia ago. Every component is expertly crafted by highly skilled smiths using centuries-old methods.
The blade is pattern-welded and heat-treated to achieve a Rockwell hardness of 40-45 HRC along most of its length, with approximately 35 HRC at the guard. A simulated hamon is meticulously applied by an artisan, and each blade is honed to razor sharpness—capable of cleanly slicing through a sheet of paper before leaving the workshop.
The tsuba and pommel are emblazoned with dragonflies. To the Samurai, the dragonfly symbolized fearlessness, swiftness, and courage, believed to bring soldiers strength and protection. Japan is even known as the Island of the Dragonfly or Akitsushima. The tsuba, pommel, and fuchigashira (the collar next to the tsuba) are made of brass and given an aged finish. The grip is genuine rayskin wrapped with traditional cord.
The wooden scabbard features a striking flat, mottled copper-colored finish complemented by an equally striking black and tan cord wrap.
A storage bag is included for protection and preservation. |

| The blade looks quite good for the price, although I haven’t had the chance to use it yet. Unfortunately, the inside of the sheath contains debris and what seems to be adhesive residue, which leaves marks on the blade. This is disappointing and affects the overall quality of the product. I hope this issue can be improved in the future.
