Dynasty Forge 29`` Bushi 1095 Katana in Cherry Blossom Theme |
|
|
|
The Dynasty Forge Bushi Cherry Blossom Katana features a blackened iron tsuba in a cherry blossom theme. The grip is wrapped in dark green silk cord over white ray skin. Includes a black lacquered wood saya and cotton sword bag.
The Bushi class combines a clay-tempered blade with a fine hybrid polish. This polish, while refined enough to reveal the Hada and Hamon, is also more resistant to scuffing and scratches. Therefore, the Bushi class blades are the best choice for practitioners looking for a blade with traditional handling characteristics in a more durable finish. For the collector, the Bushi class is a great entry point into the appreciation of Japanese swords.
The Steel
The Bushi 1095 line is hand-forged from 1095 high-carbon steel. This steel is chosen for its purity and high-carbon content, matching that of idealized Tamahagane. However, unlike Tamahagane, this modern steel is free of impurities and homogenous throughout. As such, 1095 blades are stronger and more resilient while retaining the famed edge-retention of traditional blades.
The Forging and Polishing Process
Starting with a single pure billet of 1095 steel, the blade is hand-forged until malleable and shaped to form. The Bushi 1095 blades then undergo the traditional clay-tempering process. The resulting white Hamon lends the steel another layer of intricacy as well as creates a differentially hardened edge. The Bushi line is given a high-grade hybrid polish. Using modern techniques and machinery, the blade is shaped and rough polished. The final stages of polishing are done by hand to ensure a smooth and elegant finish. This process, while faster than a traditional hand-polish, also tends to be more resistant to scratching and wear and tear while still displaying the Hada and Hamon, making it ideal or mid-range swords meant for either use or collection.
The Finished Blade
The Bushi 1095 line strikes a perfect balance between tradition and modern materials at an incredible value. Offering the same strength and geometry of our popular Daimyo 1095 line combined with a harder wearing hybrid polish, the Bushi 1095 line excels as a functional sword. Our Bushi class offers great value while remaining faithful to the principles of superior Japanese sword design and esthetic's.
