Forged from unique blend of 1095/1085 high-carbon steel and 1060 spring steel, this 28.75" blade exhibits all the aesthetic qualities of the traditional Japanese sword. Forge-folded 8-12 times, the blade's surface shows a complex Hada, most commonly in the Mokume and Ayasugi styles. The Hamon and Hada are further enhanced by a traditional hand-polish on imported Japanese stones. A hand-carved and burnished Bo-Hi gives this blade a lively and agile feel. The blade is fitted in the cherry blossom theme with a pair of Mt. Fuji Menuki. The 11" Tsuka is wrapped in green silk Ito. The Saya is finished in a deep black gloss lacquer.

The shirasaya is raw natural wood with no finish (which prevents the scabbard from being able to "breath").

Constructed of the 9260TH spring steel, this Shobu-Zukuri katana is our preferred varient. The shinogi (ridgeline) of this sword runs the entire length of the blade... all the way to the very tip. This configuration results in a needle-like tip where the mune-shinogi-ha comes together to a singular point, facilitating penetration of soft targets.

It is handsomely finished with a cast brass Musashi Double Ring tsuba that is thicker than the standard steel tsubas with an antiqued finish. This sword has a heftier and more antiqued look and feel than other steel fitted blades.

| Cheness Kaze - 9260 Differentially Hardened Spring Steel Katana |

The Kaze (Wind) is the result of many popular requests for a clay tempered (hardened) blade using our 9260 Silicon Alloy Spring Steel. The blade body of the Kaze is a hand clayed and differentially heat treated 9260 silicon carbon spring steel. It is finished with a replica of an antique blackened cast steel tsuba submitted to us. This steel is stronger than our Kanbai katana, but does not have the same resiliency of the through hardened 9260. The gain from the clay hardening is that the blade has a smooth and elegant natural hamon (9260 does not generate the same hamon as the Kanbai katana).
