The Chinese Pudao, originally an infantry weapon, has been adopted into the martial arts and its use in the hands of a skilled practitioner is spectacular. This weapon is also known as a horse-cutter sword, since it was used to slice the legs out from under a horse during battle. Our Pudao (SH2072) is a weapon to be coveted by infantry of old and modern martial artists alike. The high-carbon tempered steel blade has an agressive distal taper to promote quickness and balance and a long tang for strength, while the oak staff is tightly wrapped in a traditional pattern to optimize handling and adds to the distinctive appearance, as do the dragon-head bronzed steel blade collar and bell tassel. This weapon combines the best attributes of the sword and staff.

The Practical Gongfu Broadsword (SH2063) sword is a further extension of our Practical Series. Featuring a distal-tapered high carbon steel blade, wrapped grip and steel fittings. The saber is a traditional ox-tail design. The textured wooden scabbards are designed with slotted openings, which makes both for easy sheathing and graceful lines. The "Three Wise Monkeys" is a popular symbol of the "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" proverb popular in many cultures around the world. The proverb itself is thought to have originated in China and was brought to Japan by a Buddhist monk, while the association with three monkeys appears to be a Japanese play on words. Our Three Monkey Katana (SH2329) and Wakizashi (SH2330) are built on traditional Shinogi Zukuri style blades with Bo-Hi to reduce weight and improve balance. The high-carbon blade is hand forged and differentially hardened. The blackened iron Tsuba features the "Three Wise Monkeys" in relief.

Our Japanese arrowheads (yanone) are faithfully reproduced from originals in museum collections. Some yanone were strictly utilitarian while others, like most of these examples, were beautifully pierced and decorated and used primarily for presentations and temple offerings. Most pieces fall into one of several broad groupings. The Torii, Dharma, Monkey Moon and Bamboo Butterfly fall into "Willowleaf" pattern, while the Swimming Dragon, Watakusi, Sakura and Fudo follow the Flesh Terror (Barbed) profile. The Karimata, Dragon Cloud, Boar's Eye and Tiger Dragon are crafted in what is known as the "Rope Cutter" style, though it is more likely that this profile was used for hunting big game rather than cutting ropes. These arrowheads, either singly or in groups, are outstanding collectibles and conversation pieces. Also available is the arrowhead display stand (OH2235) to showcase up to 6 arrowheads.

The Fuchi, Kashira, Kojiri, Koiguchi and Kurigata are all made from blackened bronzed iron, selectively detailed in gold. The Tsuba of the Katana and Wakizashi are made from blackened iron, with a tiger inlaid in brass. The Habaki is of one-piece brass construction.
