Each piece in the Wind & Thunder Set (SH5001 & SH5003) has a hand-forged 1065 high-carbon steel blade (nagasa) and is differentially tempered using a traditional claying method. The blades in the set feature a large o-kissaki. The Wind & Thunder Set is fitted with the black iron Raiden tsuba and Tomoe mon motif fuchi and kashira. The handle is wrapped in genuine ray skin (same) and the tsuka-ito and sageo are premium Japanese black cotton. The saya is done in a deep black lacquer and the sageo is black Japanese cotton. CAS/Hanwei have designed a cutting katana with thicker and heavier blades specifically for the martial artist that needs a sword for the demands of cutting the larger goza (tameshigiri). This set is ideal for those looking for a katana for the rigors of Battojutsu.

Wind & Thunder Wakizashi by Hanwei. This new cutting wakizashi from CAS/Hanwei is designed specifically for the martial artist that needs a sword for the demands of rigorous tameshigiri. The Wind & Thunder features a heavier and thicker blade with traditional furniture and fittings. The Wind & Thunder is fitted with the black iron Raiden tsuba and Tomoe motif fuchi and kashira. The handle is wrapped in genuine same (ray skin) and the tsuka-ito is premium Japanese black cotton. The saya is done in a traditional black laquer and the sageo is also black cotton. This sword is an excellent choice for those intereseted in batto-jutsu.

With a spring steel blade tapering to almost paper thin at the tip, it is very light (barely one pound), extremely fast and surprisingly loud in skilled hands. Named for its originator, the great General Kwan Yu, The Quandao started life as a powerful military weapon weighing over 100 lbs., but has since evolved into a martial arts weapon weighing considerably less (ours is 6.6 lbs.). The un-edged high-carbon steel blade has a distal taper for balance and is engraved in a dragon motif with the traditional bell tassel attached to the hook. The wooden staff terminates in a quatrefoil pommel and the blood cup and guard have a distinctive antiqued finish. Lighter and better balanced than most Quandaos on the market, ours is ideal for the martial artist training with this formidable weapon. The stand for the Quandao (OH2290 available separatelly) is crafted in solid oak and displays the weapon beautifully in the vertical position.

A proponent of the French school of fencing, Alfred Hutton was a British fencing master that did much to modernize sabre technique as it was fenced at the time. Hutton is acknowledged for breathing new life into the sport of fencing after it had fallen into the category of anachronistic, esoteric activities. The Hutton Sabre (SH2201) is crafted after an original with a stainless steel guard & a wire-wrapped imitation sharkskin grip. The blade & hilt of the Hutton sabre are closer to the style of the true military sabre. The blade is somewhat shortened & lightened, with a rounded tip for effective training.

Our Japanese kabuto and mempo are superbly constructed, beautifully detailed and a great value. Models SH2082/SH2083/SH2088 replicate the helms of the great Daimyo Takeda Shingen, Oda Nobunaga and Date Masamune respectively. Model SH2081, based on a museum piece of unknown provenance, doubles as an exquisite stand for a katana and wakizashi set. All four pieces are equipped with leather inserts allowing them to be worn. Custom designed wooden display stands are included.

One of the rapidly growing arts within historical fencing societies is that of sabre fencing in the late 19th century Italian style, originating with fencing masters who were employed to train mounted troops in the effective use of military sabre. This particular sabre (SH2199) is based on an original used by Italian fencing master Salvatore Pecoraro. The hilt design developed by Pecoraro has been reproduced in our fencing sabre SH2199, with a stainless steel guard & a wire-wrapped imitation sharkskin grip. The high-carbon flex-tempered steel blade closely follows the proportions of the period and is button-tipped for safety. A replacement blade (OH2264A) is available for the Pecoraro Sabre.

Designed for the rapier fencer with a preference for the cup-hilt style who wishes to spar in saftey, our Practical Cup-hilt Rapier & Main Gauche fit the bill perfectly. The Practical Pro Elite Katana has an extended tsuka and a thicker and longer (29") Performance Series blade with a finer polish when compared to others in the Practical series. The blade is forged in high-carbon steel and differentially hardened using the traditional claying method. The rayskin-covered tsuka is wrapped with cotton ito and is double-pegged for safety. The saya is finished in a deep black lacquer with a black Japanese cotton sageo. The fittings (koshirae) are finished in antiqued black iron. The katana feature a round Kuruma tsuba, which represents the 'Wheel of Dharma', symbolizing the Buddhist concept of the Noble Eightfold Path.

Guiseppe Radaelli, 19th century Milanese fencer of the northern Italian school, is noted for the development of modern sabre play with a light, narrow-bladed weapon. Radaelli was a teacher of mounted troops and was concerned exclusively with the military use of the sabre. The Radaelli Sabre (SH2200) is replicated from an original piece with remarkable balance, durability, and swiftness. . The hilt design developed by Radaelli has been reproduced in our fencing sabre SH220, with a stainless steel guard & a wire-wrapped imitation sharkskin grip. The high-carbon flex-tempered steel blade closely follows the proportions of the period and is button-tipped for safety. A replacement blade (OH2264A) is available for the Radaelli Sabre.
