Ashdown Viking sword |
In 871, the young prince Alfred, later known as Alfred the Great, bravely led the army of King Ethelred of Wessex in a glorious victory against the large invasion of the Danish army. This sword was the main weapon used in this decisive battle. The sword was forged from high carbon steel. The blade having a wide slope makes the blade light and deadly. Blade can be sharpened(not sharpened by factory). The cross guard is richly decorated with raised knots. Both the guard and the head are made of steel and have been darkened to give an antique finish. Soft leather covers the wooden handle. The set includes a leather scabbard with a matching belt, which has a very decorative metal fitting.
