With over 100 million copies sold in over 40 languages, millions have grown up with "The Lord of the Rings," the classic epic tale considered by millions to be the greatest fantasy-adventure story ever told. J.R.R. Tolkien's phenomenal epic trilogy chronicles the struggle between good and evil for possession of a magical ring. The book trilogy, named the most popular book of the 20th Century, is the motion picture event of the 21st Century. "The Lord of the Rings" is presented in a trilogy of feature films from New Line Cinema, "The Fellowship of the Ring," "The Two Towers," and "The Return of the King," the last to be released in December 2003. A work of sheer invention on a staggering scale, "The Lord of the Rings" takes us back to Middle-earth, an era that predates written history, where humans share the world with immortal elves, powerful wizards, and industrious dwarves.
Elendil, wise and fair King and builder of the strongholds of Gondor, kept watch over much of Middle-earth. For more than an Age, a great darkness covered the lands until Elendil united with Gil-galad to form The Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Elendil led his men to victory against Sauron and his legions of orcs, in the Battle of Dagorlad. Then, on the slopes of Mount Orodruin, despite heavy losses, the Alliance managed to drive Sauron's forces back. Cornered there, Sauron himself took to the battlefield. After heavy battle, Sauron slayed the Great King of Men, Elendil, and shattered his legendary sword, Narsil. The armour and helm of Elendil were adorned with the feathered wings and crests of seabirds. These emblems represented Elendil's arrival from over the sea in ships that sailed on the wings of the wind. The crest and wings of Elendil's helm were slighty larger than other Gondorian helms, symbolizing his status as king.

Plaque:10" X 14-3/4" X 5/8" wood. Wood grain finish with silk-screened designs.
Narsil Sword, the ancient sword of the King Elendil. It was the Narsil sword that severed the ring of power from the hand of Sauron. Engraved on the pommel are runes in the Elven language of Sindarin that say: Narsil is my name, a mighty sword; Telchar made me in Nogrod.
Narsil is perhaps the most famous sword in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. At the end of the second age of Middle-earth, Narsil`s blade was shattered as Elendil fell during the Last Alliance of Elves and Men in the great battle of Sauron. Isuldur, Elendil`s son, then used the broken hilt of Narsil to cut the One Ring from Sauron`s finger, breaking the bonds of his power, banishing his evil shadow into the darkness.

Bilbo gives Sting, a sword made by Elves in the ancient days, to Frodo to serve him on his harrowing journey. Bilbo carried Sting with him when he originally acquired the Ring from Gollum. Sting's blade glows when Orcs, the violent footsoldiers of Sauron, are present. Engraved on the blade and cross guard are runes in the Elven language of Sindarin that say "Maegnas aen estar nin dagnir in yngyl im" which translates to "Maegnas is my name, I am the spider's bane."

LOTR The Sword of Boromir (UC1400) |
Points: 20
|
OFFICIALLY LICENSED ADULT COLLECTIBLE REPRODUCTION
BLADE MATERIAL: Tempered, 420 J2 stainless steel with a fuller grind, false-edged.
HANDLE MATERIAL: Solid metal guard and pommel, antique metal finish, genuine leatherwrapped grip, tapered tang construction.
PLAQUE: 12-1/8" x 13-3/8" x 3/4"
wood, silkscreened design.
Oldest son of Denethor, the steward of Gondor, Boromir was a prince in all but name: he was implanted into a noble house and heir apparent to a ruling tradition that spanned back for a thousand years. Boromir was a proud and strong man who was considered by his fellow soldiers to be one of the most skilled swordsman of Gondor. He triumphed as a captain in the Gondorian army while leading the forces against Sauron at Osgiliath, where he deterred a throng of Orcs that had overrun the former capital city. Following a powerful dream Boromir shared with his brother Faramir, Boromirs father commanded his son to ride north as the ambassador for Gondor to attend the Council of Elrond. He later agreed to join the Fellowship on its quest to destroy The One Ring. In a single moment of weakness, Boromir attempted to take the Ring from Frodo, which would in turn lead to his demise as he single-handedly defended hobbits, Merry and Pippin, from the hands of Saruman's Uruk-hai before falling under a rain of arrows. Boromir's sword was single-handed, big, broad and powerful - a fit complimentary to its owner. To use it required someone with great strength, which this skilled warrior abundantly possessed.
