This knife is an actual copy of a typical Bowie knife of the 1830s. The story of the Bowie began on a sandbar of the Mississippi River above Natchez, Mississippi on September 19, 1827. A brawl that eventually involved Col. James “Jim” Bowie, who, having been shot and stabbed, successfully defended himself killing Major Norris Wright and wounding Alfred Blanchard with what onlookers described as a “large butcher knife.” This and other tales of Bowie’s abilities with a knife led to the widespread popularity of what became known as the “Bowie” knife.

Stallone has been an avid collector of Gil's custom knives and that relationship continued when Stallone commissioned Gil to make several knives to use in his new film, The Expendables.
